I'm Filip, an Approved Driving Instructor providing manual driving lessons across Edinburgh.
I've been an ADI since 2023, but my experience on Edinburgh's roads goes back much further. Before becoming a driving instructor, I spent 10 years driving buses around Edinburgh and I have more than 20 years of driving experience overall.
What I enjoy most about teaching is seeing a learner progress from needing support with every decision to becoming a confident, independent driver.

My Approach to Teaching
Learning to drive isn't just about passing the test. I want my learners to understand what they're doing, make good decisions and eventually drive without needing someone beside them to tell them what to do.
People learn at different speeds, so lessons should adapt to the learner rather than forcing every pupil through exactly the same routine.
That might mean slowing things down when a learner is nervous, spending more time developing a difficult skill, or giving more independence when someone is ready for it.

Mistakes are part of learning. We use them to understand what happened and improve the next attempt.

Lessons are adapted to your experience, confidence and current stage of learning.
Building Independence
Instructor support is gradually reduced as your skills develop, helping you learn to assess situations and make safe decisions yourself.
Edinburgh Road Experience Matters
Spending a decade driving buses in Edinburgh gave me extensive experience of the city's road network, traffic patterns, junctions, bus lanes and the challenges drivers face every day.
That experience now helps me choose suitable training areas and gradually introduce learners to increasingly demanding road situations as their confidence and ability develop.
The aim isn't simply to learn a few familiar test roads. It's to develop the judgement and awareness needed to drive safely anywhere.
Why I Became a Driving Instructor
One of the most rewarding parts of the job is watching someone's confidence change as they learn. At the beginning, even moving the car or approaching a junction can feel like a huge task. Gradually those same decisions become natural.
Helping someone reach the point where they no longer need their instructor beside them is what makes the job satisfying for me.
